There's gotta be another faction in the Writing Department, either that or they can't see the irony.
by Theocratic Sedition inthe past two week's worth of wt studies have made a couple points that appear contradictory in nature.
yesterday was too much, i felt at least.
either there's another faction within the writing department fighting for the equivalent of airtime in the literature, or they're all so indoctrinated that they fail to see the irony in what they publish.. for instance, take paragraph 5 from last week's lesson.. 5. unlike the law codes of many countries, "the perfect law" is neither complex nor burdensome but consists of simple commandements and principles.

Serena Williams wins....but as a Jehovah's Witness will not toast.....New York Daily News Story
by Balaamsass inu.s. open sponsor moet leads champagne toast to champion serena williams, a jehovah's witness who does not drinkreporters on tight deadline wait for inappropriate-feeling homage before williams can begin press conference.comments (7).

howard simmons/new york daily newsserena williams is thrilled about winning the u.s. open, but she will not celebrate with a champagne toast due to her religious beliefs.. there was an awkward interval sunday night in the press interview room, when the u.s. open sponsors, moet, delivered a trolley of small champagne bottles to the assembled media who already had waited an hour to ask post-match questions of serena williams.. before williams could begin answering questions, usta ceo gordon smith led a toast that basically called williams victory the greatest match in open history.. .

Theocratic Sedition
There's a side of me that wishes somebody with some authority in the organization or in whatever congregation she attends would tell her to stop referring to herself as a JW. Every now and then I cringe thinking about having to explain some of her actions to nonJWs that I work with or otherwise. Some people mention that because of her money she get's a pass on everything, but I'm not entirely convinced of that. She's been non-baptized for quite some time and I betcha the congregation she's associated with wishes she would simply go away. Her father was a nut, and the way she views herself as a JW has me thinking the apple hasn't strayed too far away from the tree. We've all known those nutty JWs or even non-baptized JWs that wouldn't do this or that and would tell others its because they're a JW. At the same time they would be involved with a ton of other things most JWs wouldn't even consider doing. I can think of a handful in our congregaton now, some of which only show up during the memorial, and they're all nuts.

Killing Ananias and Sapphira
by irondork ini happened to be reading this part of acts yesterday, ananias and sappira getting zapped for lying about keeping a portion of their profits.
it occurred to me, that is, like, oh my gawd, soooo old testament!
is there any other place in the new testament where a person was immediately executed by god for their error?

Does anybody else think it is just a LITTLE strange that these two got whacked on the spot for stealing a little pocket change -
While Satan and the Demons are supposedly still around laughing at everybody after many thousands of years?
The best thing you could say about this story is probably that it is an ancient urban myth from the second or third centuries - thus nobody really got killed by god.
Just like everything else in the Bible. David was a hothead, an adulterer, a peeping Tom even!! Yet, he had the option to pick and choose who's form of punishment he'd experience, man's or God's. Ironically, he chose God's, and lived long enough to tell the story. Satan essentially attempted a coup de tat, and is supposedly the reason why there's wickedness in society today. He's still running around doing his thang.
To me though, the best is Peter. Two faced, hotheaded, presumptuous, cowardly, and yet he's the messenger of doom for Ananias and Sapphira. None of it adds up. Contradictions and more contradictions.

The past two week's worth of WT Studies have made a couple points that appear contradictory in nature. Yesterday was too much, I felt at least. Either there's another faction within the Writing Department fighting for the equivalent of airtime in the literature, or they're all so indoctrinated that they fail to see the irony in what they publish.
For instance, take paragraph 5 from last week's lesson.
5. Unlike the law codes of many countries, "the perfect law" is neither complex nor burdensome but consists of simple commandements and principles. (1 John 5:3) "My yoke is kindly and my load is light, "said Jesus. (Matt 11:29, 30) Additionally, "the perfect law" has no need for a long list of sanctions or penaltis, for it is founded on love and engraved on minds and hearts, not on tablets of stone.- Read Hebrews 8:6, 10.
They can't see the irony in this paragraph?
Check out paragraph 16?
16. Consider this: When you are in the company of those who love Jehovah with all their heart, do you feel afraid? Do you find yourself constantly glancing over your shoulder? While engaging in conversation at the Kingdom Hall, do you keep a firm grip on your belongings lest they disapear? On the contrary! You feel at ease and free. Would you feel that way at a secular event? Not likely! What is more, the freedom that you enjoy now among God's people is just a foretaste of the freedom that lies ahead.
Check out the gems from yesterday's lesson.
1. Jehovah is the only Person with absolute freedom. Yet, he never misuses it; nor does he monopolize freedom by micromanaging his servants. Instead, he has given them free will, which allows them to use initiative and satisfy all their proper desires. For example, God gave Adam and Eve only one restrictive command-- the prohibition against eating from "the tree of the knowledge of good and bad." (Gen 2:17) What an amazing degree of freedom they had in carrying out their Creator's will!
I cannot help but think the parts highlighted are instances of a saboteur at work in the Writing Department. There's no way someone can read these paragraphs and not see the irony in what was printed. Am I crazy?

5 Reasons Why the DEAF Masturbation Video is different than anything before...
by BluePill2 inas some of you have noticed the asl video warning against masturbation (another guilt trip) is creating waves.
this is not small fry.
1. it is humorous - most topics (like other policies) are serious/depressing (blood, shunning, pedos).

But God did not 'zap' them. They died. Shock, fear, something else... knowing they had blasphemed against the Holy Spirit (the one sin that will not be forgiven)... I don't know. Their flesh gave out upon discovery and knowledge of what they did and its ramifications, and they died.
That's flawed thinking I believe Tammy, because the account goes on to say that "great fear came over the whole congregation and over all those hearing about these things" after Ananias died, and the statement was repeated after Sapphira died. Why would the congregation become fearful after this event if the couple died of simply shock? It's similar to a cartel hit in broad daylight, or a prison stabbing in front of the guards. It's not just about the hit, but it's also about sending a message. Make no mistake about it, Ananias and Sapphira's death was a hit, and a strong message was sent out to the rest of the congregation.

Why are we so negligent?
Could be wrong, and probably am, but I think it's a male thing. You should hear the mother hens I work with after telling them I haven't been to the dentist since middle school. I purposely disregarded obtaining dental insurance this past year even though my employer offers it. The next open enrollment period I plan on picking up the dental coverage and getting a checkup though. Hopefully everything works out.
Glad you're alive and kicking Terry.

Are they asking for it?
by Hermano inafter reading throught bluepill2's thread on the wts asl masturbation video, i wonder, are they doing this on purpose?
are they somehow hoping some of this stuff goes viral to garner attention?
are they counting on a public backlash so they can claim persecution?

I think there's a faction within the upper echelons of the WT that is purposely printing material to raise the eyebrows of JWs, and the production of this video may have the hand of a saboteur at work. That La Bamba looking kid was FAR too into it. His facial expressions, the efforts he put into mock stroking left me under the impression that either he's far too zealous, possibly brown-nosing, or an undercover troll. Plenty of JWs are stiffs, but plenty of JWs have a sense of humor. That said, I can't for one moment imagine that nobody reviewing that video before it was posted on the website, didn't find La Bamba's mock stroke and facial expressions hilarious and also quasi suspect.
